Rm {William Robotham - Chief Engineer} /Wyman 622 File DA. {Bernard Day - Chassis Design} 20/G.15.6.38. WRAITH III - FRONT ENGINE MOUNTING WITH MORE RUBBER. Please receive herewith E.CD.743 Modified Triangular High Front Engine Mounting - Wraith 111. We have prepared this design in accordance with the request of Rm {William Robotham - Chief Engineer} /Wym. {G. Harold Whyman - Experimental Manager} 21/JH.25.5.38. to give an increased depth of rubber on the underside of the rubber support bush, so as to further soften the engine mounting. It has been found necessary to raise the facing on the cylinder block forthe engine support nose to obtain the space for the increased depth of rubber, and the maximum amount we could raise the centre of the bearing was .550" which, of course, means that the depth of the rubber on which the engine weight rests has been increased from .450" to 1.000". The triangular support member is modified at the top to suit the raised centre. A scrap view of shown on the design drawing to show an adaptation of the revised mounting to the existing experimental engines, which are all fitted with the original cylinder blocks with central engine mounting faces and not offset as now. Will you please detail and issue the necessary instructions for the experiment. It should be stressed that it is only an experiment. DA. {Bernard Day - Chassis Design} WYMAN | ||
