X+153. Hotel de France. Chateauroux. Indre. 19.8.33. To Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} From G.W.H. I. B. IV. We had to send our telegrams to Derby as the Chateauroux Post Office would not accept them addressed to Walcot on Sea, there being no telegraph Office. We hope that the information reached you. We are meanwhile attending to the slipper wheel, the load having dropped to 10 lbs. We have also taken the valves out and examined for cause of lost valve clearance in the exhausts. From what we can observe the loss is caused by the settling down or distortion of the valve seats themselfs. There is no hammering in effect. Taking a check by bedding, the seats have dropped opposite the outlets, also the bore of the valve port below the seating is slightly too small. The bottom dia. of the valve is approx. .002 larger in dia. than the bore consequently there is a defined ring at the bottom of the valve seating. We found the bottom N.S.F. wing stay broken close to the frame, also the attachment from Wing to running board. The lessening of the front damper loads, for the slower speeds has not made much improvement to the wing movement. G H Hancock G.W.H. | ||
