Dear Mr Robotham

Mr Edwards has just written me saying you had had an initial test of the exhaust system I suggested and that in respect of power it was a distinct improvement but in respect of noise it was not quite so good.

I did not expect it to be so good from the noise point of view as the spaces available at the bed next the engine were necessarily much less than with the standard system. The main object was to see if separating the two sets of exhaust ports would give a considerable increase in power without, of course, increasing the noise unduly. As it is now found that the power is reasonably increased it would seem worth while to continue the work with a view to evolving a complete system which will give the required reduction of noise & to getting a design which will be neat and practicable in production.
