EAC.7. is being fitted with a new starter motor system termed "RR sequence" (which we have had in hand some years). After several tries we have given up helical engagement as being difficult to engage silently, so we are expecting better results from parallel axial movement of the armature and pinion.

This is obtained by teazer field coil winding giving an end pull against a spring, then when nearly fully engaged, contact is made for the relay main switch.

On the main switch making contact withe teazer circuit is broken by a magnet excited by the same circuit.

The armature of this and the main switch are interlocked so that the main switch cannot be in unless teazer circuit is broken, but by a hold-on teazer circuit this teazer circuit remains broken.

Upon the engine firing and reducing the main circuit current, the armature moves endways and breaks the main switch circuit, and all comes quietly to rest, no matter how clumsily and carelessly the press button is operated, and low long it is held on.

We have had several attempts at the above, getting nearer to perfection every time, and we have good hopes that our next will be quite satisfactory. It is now much more simple than the original, and if it is thought too complicated the final hold-off silent finish can be deleted.
