To EFC. from E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} 2nd October, 1918. E2/G21018. X3362 RE LIGHTING INSTALLATION AT WEST WITTERINGHenry Royce's home town. In connection with the lighting installation at West WitteringHenry Royce's home town, Mr. Royce is of the opinion that we shall not find satisfaction in the Willard battery it was originally proposed to use. He would like you to enquire if it is possible to obtain a glass vat battery more suitable for our purpose. The capacity should be from 50 to 100 ampere hours we think. The battery should be able to take a charging current of, say, 15 amperes at 14 volts. It should have six entirely separate glass cells standing on oil insulators. The connection between the cells should be of the bolted variety, that is to say, two lead lugs squeezed together by a bolt. This type of connection enables individual batteries to be withdrawn and dissembled. Perhaps you would let us know in due course what can be obtained to suit our installation.
