Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} x/120. To Wor.{Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager} from Sg.{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD} Copy to O.Fw Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} Cr.{Mr Cra???ster / Mr Chichester} E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} H.{Arthur M. Hanbury - Head Complaints} re Adjustable Shock Dampers for Continental Phantom II. Referring to Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}4/WJ.28.6.33 you do not appear to have had a copy of the PN.{Mr Northey}2/WT.27.6.33 memo. referred to therein. I, therefore, attach one. You will see that Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} says: "... we are whole-heartedly in agreement with the view expressed by you as regards the desirability of having adjustable Hartfords on the Continental Phantom II." I spoke to him about this at Brooklands and gathered it meant that all the technical officials are in favour of fitting adjustable Hartford shock absorbers on the Continental Phantom II as suggested by PH and that it is not felt that this is a case where the usual experimental work and 10,000 mile test need be carried out because we know that we have fitted them up ourselves for customers and because we know that agents have had them fitted up and apparently with satisfactory results. I gather that the brackets and suchlike parts are already designed. If you will confirm the above from the point of view of agreement, then we agree here to their introduction, and we should like to know when they could be introduced without scrap, and also with scrap and what the latter would entail. Possibly Andre's would take back our present stock. If it is agreed to go ahead on the lines suggested, I think it ought to be made clear to Andre's that they do not advertise the fact that we have adopted them as standard until we have given them permission to do so. Otherwise it might land us in a very difficult position during the transition stage. Sg.{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD} Enc. Copy of PN.{Mr Northey}2/WT27.6.33 | ||
