X.4048 RE "BUZZARD" SIDE STEERING TUBE.

In connection with N. scheme 369 Mr. Royce proposes the use of a set-up spring for the side steering tube, in conjunction with an adjustable steering ball pad for the purpose of avoiding the wear and friction on the ball.

With this arrangement the steering joint can be adjusted with whatever clearance is desired around the ball, and the spring pressure will only come into action due to shocks on the steering rod.

In the case of the joint shewn in Fig. A on N. scheme 369, the outer unit comprising the pad, and set-up spring, could be adjustable.

As the features of this proposal appear to be novel, Mr. Royce would like the necessary steps taken for patenting it.

Further information will be sent regarding N. scheme 369, which is to be proceeded with in the simple form for the "Buzzard" and "Vulture" chassis.

E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer}
