Our Ref: ACL/JB. April 1st 1920 Messrs. Rolls-Royce Ltd., Nightingale Road, DERBY. Dear Sirs, For the attention of Mr. E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} Fowler Clark We are in receipt of your letter of the 31st March re our Model 29 Dynamo. It is true that we did intend to send you one of our Standard production machines, but on thinking the matter over very carefully, we came to the conclusion that, as you are requiring a machine with all noise eliminated, no useful purpose would be served by sending you a dynamo which is almost exactly like those which you have already had. This is especially so in view of the fact that we have now experimented with a "skew" armature machine which shows considerable improvement over the ordinary type as regards magnetic hum. We hope to send you, soon after the holiday, a dynamo fitted with such an armature, and with the insulation of mica instead of fibre; our experiments with the "bakelite sheet" of which we left a sample with you proving that this material is not suitable for dynamo insulation. The machine in question is nearly ready, and we will do our utmost to let you have it in the course of the next | ||
