To Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} from Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/RB.{R. Bowen} X1152 25.9.25. SHOCK ABSORBER - BUMP TEST. X1152 X8520 X4046 Derihon, Houdaille & Berkshire. Bump drum speed 120 - 130 r.p.m. 2" cams at 180°. Shock absorbers run for the following times. DERIHON. Set to drop through 20° in 25 secs. with 10 lbs. load. Run for 2 hrs. 10 mins. - quickly became over-heated (5 mins.) and lost efficiency. Oil leaks from valve gland and filler. Did not recover efficiency when cold and had to be re-filled and re-set. BERKSHIRE. 20° drop in 20 secs. Run for 1 hr. 30 mins. Over-heated quickly. Oil leaks from gland. Time to drop at finish 1 sec. HOUDAILLE. Set to drop as follows :- O/S at 10 lbs. N.S. at 30 lbs. Run for 2 hrs. Over-heated. Leaks from gland but not as bad as other makes. N/S dropped with 1 lb. on - almost recovered efficiency when cold. 2nd. test. Drum speed 60 - 80 r.p.m. Time run 15 mins (2 mins.) Became over-heated and lost efficiency, oil leaks as before - O/S shock absorber stood up to test better than N/S. BERKSHIRE. As before. contd :- | ||
