COPY. To Wor.{Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager} from Sr. Copy to E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} HY.{Tom Haldenby - Plant Engineer} Da.{Bernard Day - Chassis Design} Re WRAI. Sg{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD}7/E4.3.30. Mr. Olley has arrived in England and has brought with him an American Phantom I car. I am asking him to bring it along to Derby as soon as possible as in particular I want him to show DA.{Bernard Day - Chassis Design} the bumper fittings on the frame front and back, as it will be remembered from the Minutes of Verrey's Restaurant Conference that we have undertaken to provide a fitting for bumpers, and now that we want to get ahead with these experimental American chassis I believe that this point wants settling for the frames. There is also the question of lamp switches as per item 5 of the Minutes in question, and I am anxious to be advised in due course what is decided in this direction because, although we agreed that switches of the type indicated would be an advantage, I have not agreed yet to their inclusion in the price as I wished first to get an idea of what it was going to cost. There is also the question of the hinged cap for the petrol tank which was one of the items agreed. Then there is the question of the hand throttle stop as per item 16 which he wishes to demonstrate on the American car and discuss with whomsoever deals with this item. Re the oil filter, we agreed that this should be improved, and E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} was to put forward a scheme, and I am not sure how this stands. You will be pleased to hear that they have decided to have one rake of steering only which will be "B". This should simplify the matter considerably from W's point of view. Cy. has raised the question of the patch instrument board as supplied with Phantom II, and seems to think that by reason of its shape, i.e. its depth, it will not be suitable for the American Phantom II because of the brake lever. This is a point which he wishes to discuss with whomsoever deals with such matters, and before we go into the question of a new type of board, which would mean extra expense not provided for in the contract, we ought to satisfy ourselves that it is correct that the present standard one would not be suitable.
