-2- Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Mths.{Reg Matthews}12/KW.20.2.35. To avoid detonation at the low speeds the ignition has to be retarded an appreciable amount, and at 1500 r.p.m. and 2000 r.p.m. the ignition has to be retarded slightly more when using the Lec.3662 head than when using the EB.2050 head. The drop in B.M.E.P. due to retarding the ignition to avoid detonation at the low speeds with EB.2050 head amounts to :- 5% at 750 r.p.m. 3.9% at 1000 " 3.1% at 1500 " 2.1% at 2000 " and with Lec.3662 head to - 4.9% at 750 r.p.m. 3.8% at 1000 " 3.6% at 1500 " 2.0% at 2000 " For the detonation tests we fitted the Test Bed exhaust system and used Shell No. 1 fuel, and for the power tests we used D.T.D.224 fuel. The EB.2050 cylinder head has successfully completed a 20 hours' endurance test. The weights of the two heads are as follows :- EB.2050 67 1/4 lbs. Lec.3662 71 1/4 lbs.
