With regard to your memo. BY3/B23.11.25., we do not think the following parts should be made in duralumin.
E.72896 - Silencer pedestal bracket.
E.71343 - Centre pedestal.
E.70648 - Bridge Pieces.
E.71445 - " "
but all the remaining pieces mentioned in this same memo. we think are quite safe for the lighter material.
As regards the first mentioned item - E.72896, we should prefer to substitute the lighter sheet metal construction which we are using in other places, for holding up the silencer.
As previously mentioned we shall not be able to do any of this work at WW. for some little time to come, and we should be glad if you could do what is possible in Derby to carry out the proposals for producing a lighter experimental Phantom engine. In the meantime we will study the drawings already sent through for alum. cyl. head and block, and let you know if we think these require any modification.
