DA.{Bernard Day - Chassis Design} c.Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} X7360 BY3/G.21.11.29. PHANTOM 11 BRAKES. X7360 X7420 RECEIVED NOV 21 1929 Referring to DA{Bernard Day - Chassis Design}1/M18.11.29. we cannot agree that the clearance we have shown between the coupling rod and the cross member is excessive. We think you have overlooked the fact that the limits and working conditions demand a reasonable/clearance under such circumstances, and we cannot agree therefore to your proposal that this clearance should be reduced. As shown on the drawing, the coupling rod is not in its worst position, it goes considerably nearer the tube when in certain positions. We would like you to let us have a proper scheme embodying what you require, and we would give the matter prompt consideration. In the meantime, in view of R's note we are having to make a move at once without delay, and we propose to follow what the Experimental Department have actually tried out, otherwise we are afraid complications may arise later, which would land us in difficulties on production. Whilst dealing with the question of Phantom 11 brakes, we would remind you that we do not appear to have had a reply to our wire of the 18th inst. where we ask whether you intend to do the work necessary to bring the Phantom rear brakes so far as the shoe area is concerned and increase the life by thickening up the Ferodo facing, at WW. or on the other hand would you prefer us to produce a scheme. This matter is getting urgent, and should have early attention. BY | ||
