We send you herewith LeC.4976 showing the design of an experimental rod showing the bearing of the top and bottom halves made in Halls metals. The bottom half cradle is re-enforced with steel caps and held together by N.M.C. steel bolts. The banjo is increased but this does not matter if the rods are fitted into a modern crankcase. The clearance of the bearings on the crankpin is a matter of experiment. We should expect that it will be found necessary to increase the clearance so that the bearings will not tighten on to the pins under zero temperatures. Likewise we should expect the bearings to tighten up in the blade rod when hot unless sufficient initial clearance is provided for. E/JNR.{Charles L. Jenner} | ||
