X.3888. RE PETROL LEVEL INDICATOR & RESERVE SUPPLY VALVE.

We have received your LeC.1267 and have instructed details to be proceeded with.

We had done a certain amount on this question our-selves and sent you a day or two ago, our attempts at the indica-tor, and we now send you two schemes - "N" scheme 521 and 526 of the Reserve Supplt Valve, just to shew what we had done, as we are taking no further action now.

One of the difficulties we thought had to be dealt with was the question of tightening up the nuts at the end of the tank supporting tubes, which it will be remembered bear on the baffles. It appeared to be essential to have a hand hole sufficiently large to get in fairly easily, and as the existing hand hole is good, and it does not seem possible to make it much smaller, we had adopted the same device as at present.

Another point was that we thought it would be desirable to know whether one was on the reserve or main supply, and we had accordingly attempted to arrange the handle to indicator which one was on.

We also had considered that it was necessary, if we use the spring to shut the valve, as originally intended, to look this valve in each position and have some little difficult in devising a sufficiently simple lock.
