Three design suggestions for a forward-only servo mechanism.

X5370 We send herewith N.sch.3602. shewing 3 suggestions for arranging a servo so that it will only go in a forward direction whichever way the car is going. (a) This is a device using a bevel gear in which the servo speed in the forward and reverse direction is the same namely that given by the worm train. It also requires the use of only 2 freewheels. (b) This gives a slower forward than reverse speed, and also it is thought that the epicyclic gear is somewhat nicer to make than the bevl gear. This also requires only 2 freewheels. (c) This shews a device which gives a reduction beyond that of the worm in both forward and reverse directions, one however being rather more than the other. This requires 4 freewheels as is indicated on the diagram. We have shewn a Hispano type of servo for the sake of convenience, and because this one way drive is very convenient for using a simple self wrapping brake, but any type of servo can be employed. We believe that something of this kind was sent to you some years ago when we first investigated servo driving, but we are not sure how far it was carried. DA.{Bernard Day - Chassis Design} | ||
