Wor.{Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager} -2- and see whether the methods which they are proposing to take to prevent rust are likely to be really effective. We are, of course, aware that American cars are all-steel, and many French ones, but they are mostly of a far lower price than ours, and we have to bear in mind that a customer would not expect to find rust coming through his paintwork, or his panels deteriorating by rusting possibly from the inside, under at least 5 years. We want to assure you that we are quite anxious to bring in steel bodies in view of the excellent results which you have reported, and, in fact, we in London have consistently encouraged Park Wards to push ahead with the construction of this experimental body, but we must have your definite assurance as metallurgical experts that such bodies will not suffer from the defect of rust coming through the paint on panels, wings, etc. before we dare commit the Company to order a batch of bodies and sell them to the Public as a first-class article on a £1460 car.
