Mr. I. WALLER, Experimental Department. 1245 Levallois VA.5/ET.11.1.39 Dear Ivan, With reference to the conversation I had with you on the telephone this morning concerning the dynamo of the above chassis, which has unfortunately been burnt out, the following is our report about the matter: We reconditioned the above car for re-sale last October and the car was then sold to this customer as being in good condition. We carried out the following work on the electrical system: Dismantled the dynamo, cleaned and examined it, trued up the commutator. Fitted 3 new brushes, fitted new connections to the brush holders, re-conditioned the connections (cables) of the field windings. Re-assembled and tested the dynamo. Trimmed up the contacts of the electrical cut-out. Examined the cables to the distribution box. Re-conditioned the fuse holders as fitted to the distribution box and fitted new fuses as necessary. Replaced defective cables where necessary. Re-conditioned the cables to the battery etc... The driver has returned the dynamo to us and, upon examination, we find that the armature is burnt out, as well as the field windings. The following is a translation of a note which we have received from the owner's driver yesterday: "The dynamo has abnormally overheated. Same had "been overcharging, viz.14 to 16 amps. at 90 k.p.h. "At lower speeds it charged at 10 amps., a dif-"ference of 4 amps. "Upon my return from Paris to Chaume, on 14.12.38, "2 fuses blew. The dynamo, however, only commenced "to overheat to-day. Your Service Station at Châ-"teauroux changed the fuse for one of 30 amps. The "charging resistance, as fitted to the dashboard "near the box containing the fuses, is burnt out "and it will be necessary to replace it." We understand that you very kindly assisted the driver at Châteauroux, when he was in trouble with the electrical system, and will be glad if you will kindly let us know what work was actually carried out. | ||
