The sources of wind noise in a Wraith III vehicle.

RE: WIND NOISES - WRAITH 111.

We went out in the Grey, Close-Coupled Wraith, 25-G-V1 (Ev.{Ivan Evernden - coachwork} and FD.{Frank Dodd - Bodies}) and agree that the wind noises are very much above the standard. This we attribute to the fact that insufficient care having been taken to avoid the trouble. The noises occur at the following places :-

(1). Sunshine roof drains, which face forward. These should be at the side and face rearwards.
(2). Sun-roof - forward joint does not make a seal.
(3). Sun-roof slide covering is not damped against flapping. Needs to be damped and sound proofed.
(4). Front door shuts } Noises due to air
Rear door shuts } extraction.
(5). Door shuts at Centre Pillar. The trouble here is aggravated by the fact that the air enters the door shut via. the joints in the hinge butts.

When all of these points on the body had been taped up, the body was reasonably good for wind noise, in fact quite average.

Most of these troubles were analysed in February 1934 in Ev.{Ivan Evernden - coachwork}1/IH.20.2.34 and Ev.{Ivan Evernden - coachwork}2/IH.22.2.34, and possible cures suggested. Most of our suggestions have been disregarded on 25-G-V1.

We suggest that the work started in February 1934 needs completion as we never succeeded in equalling the silence of the Essex Terraplane, our reference car.
