1181 Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}4/R.{Sir Henry Royce} 16th December, 1937. The Gandy Belty Manufacturing Co.,Ltd., Seacombe, WALLASEY, Ches: (For the attention of Mr. Ikin). Dear Sirs, Confirming the arrangements made with Mr. Ikin yesterday:- (1) The samples of 400 GM squeaked on our rig, slightly when run up to 200°C, badly when run up to 320°C. This sample contained 1% of graphite. (2) We will test the samples of 400 GM, 3/8" thick containing 2% of graphite, when they arrive. (3) We will test the sample of material supplied to the Daimler Co. (name unknown to us) when it arrives, on our rig. (4) You will make a sample of 400 M containing the maximum amount of graphite (about 5%) in the ordinary state (not colloidal) when a suitable opportunity occurs. We are disappointed that you do not make rubber bonded linings, because we consider these linings to be very promising, and we use one on our clutches. As regards production prices of linings, although if necessity compels us we will pay a comparatively high price for a lining to get us out of some specific trouble, | ||
