Lubrication System

Engine lubricating system is of the force-feed type. Oil is supplied under pressure to main, connecting rod and camshaft bearings. A secondary line from the pump delivers oil to the oil filter and from there to the hollow rocker arm shaft.

Cylinder walls, pistons and piston pin bearings are lubricated by oil forced through a small hole drilled through the lower end of each connecting rod which meters with the hole in crankshaft once each revolution.

Timing gears and generator shaft front bearing are lubricated by the overflow of oil from the rocker arm shaft.

Should it be necessary to rebuild an engine, a quantity of cylinder oil, approximately one and one-half ounces, should be poured in the hole in cylinder head which carries the oil return pipe from the front end of the rocker shaft. This will supply ample lubrication for the generator shaft front bearing until oil is circulated through the entire system.

Oil Temperature Regulator

An oil temperature regulator is used on all Series 50, 60 and 90 models. Its purpose is dual.

First: It acts as a cooler for the oil to prevent a rise in temperature, due to continued high speed driving, to a point where its lubricating quality would be reduced.

Second: It acts as an oil heater, when engine is started cold, since the water temperature, under control of the radiator thermostat, is raised more quickly than the temperature of the oil in the sump would be raised without the aid of the temperature regulator.

Acting in this dual capacity, this regulator tends to equalize the temperatures of engine oil and cooling water, thereby providing a more uniform temperature of
