RE: REAR AXLE THRUST The 20/25HP. Rear Axle Thrust, on which the races of the thrust bearing(New Departure type, Hoffmann No.5153) are shrouded with a shell, frequently fail in service and this is one of the items which is causing considerable expense to the Repair Depots. Some time ago you agreed that a New Departure type Bearing G.54269, similar in design to the type at present used on the Phantom.II. Rear Axle(on which the races are not shrouded) could be used. This type of bearing is much better than the shrouded type as it is possible to check the general accuracy of assembly. We understand that this changeover is not to take place until "T" Series, and there are still 133 chassis in "S" Series to be built. In view of the expense of replacements in service with the shrouded type of bearing, it would appear important that the new type should be brought in as soon as possible. Could it be possible for this bearing to be brought in on the last 100 of "S" Series. RHC.{R. H. Coverley - Production Engineer} | ||
