X219 To E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} c. to By.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Std.18/KW. 21.1.35. Bentley Silent Tappet Head. In connection with the head for Bentley automatic tappets, we should of course prefer this to be in aluminium from weight considerations. On the other hand, we cannot take the risk of delaying the silent tappets by running into some trouble with the valve inserts on the Bentley. Since it appears that we require the largest possible size of inlet valve from a power standpoint, we should like the head to be in cast-iron similar to EB.2050, but modified to incorporate the features shown on V.1732 attached, except that the compression ratio is to be standard.
