To J.M. from Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Wst. X6119 8.2.33. COMPARISON BETWEEN R.R. DISTRIBUTORS BATTERY IGNITION TESTS. (1) Obtain make-ratio-speed curves of :- (a) Standard distributor with .55 setting at 800 r.p.m. Spring loading 1 lb. on points. (b) - ditto - but with lightened lever, same spring loading. Speeds to range from 200 r.p.m. to 2500 r.p.m. (c) Double breaker Peregrine with 1 lb. ~~load~~ loading on points and with make ratio set to .75 at 800 r.p.m. Speeds to range from 200 to 3000 r.p.m. (2) Keeping the make-ratios accurately set as for (1) obtain with a standard D.72503 ignition coil and standard ballast resistance :- (a) Current consumption curves at 12 volts across coil and ballast in series from 200 r.p.m. to 2500 r.p.m. with standard 20/25 distributor and Peregrine double breaker distributor each set to their respective make ratios as in (1). (b) Maximum secondary voltage - speed curve with each distributor from 200 to 2500 r.p.m. - but with L.T. voltage reduced to 10. *20 m f condenser* (c) Maximum working voltage - speed curve using a 500,000 ohm shunt resistance, conditions as in (b). (3) Now substitute a 2.00 (cold) ohms ballast and repeat tests (2). (4) Repeat tests (2) using a non-ballasted Delco-Remy coil. GENERAL REMARKS. Take speeds from distributor spindle. Check make ratio periodically preferably after every reading. Check Spring | ||
