PLEASE REFER TO TECHNICAL DEPT. AND QUOTE REFERENCE CMC/MEN IN YOUR REPLY 29th April, 1937. Messrs. Rolls-Royce Ltd., Derby. Gentlemen, For the attention of Mr. West. We beg to confirm the Writer's discussion with Mr. West at Derby yesterday when he promised to make up as quickly as possible some Corundite plugs type FE.30x provided with a copper central electrode bearing a small nickel firing point in place of the solid nickel electrode which is generally used. The object of this would be to give higher heat conductivity in the electrode and thereby lower the temperature of the actual firing point. These plugs will be ready in a few days. With regard to the special electrodes to which you were good enough to attach Brightray faces, we have now assembled these into complete plugs and shall be sending them, together with others to which we have attached nickel faces, very shortly. We shall be very interested if you can arrange to test under comparative conditions these Brightray faced electrodes, the nickel faced electrodes and standard electrodes which are not faced with any material at all. Our own experience shows that the nickel faced electrode is showing to advantage. We also confirm that we are putting in hand twelve of the new copper centred plug in a finned body of which we showed Mr. West a sample. | ||
