GOSHAWK 1. INDUCTION PIPES, EXHAUST PIPES & CARBURETTER.
X.4228. X.4227.

We send you herewith drawings Nos.LeC.1613 and 1614 shewing the above. These schemes give you the essential particulars of the inlet and exhaust pipes and carburetter which Mr.Royce desires fitting to Goshawk-1. Some of the installation however remains to be completed. The control to the throttle has been carried as far as the rod passing between the cylinder blocks.
Mr. Royce would like you to complete the remainder of the control gear as far as possible on the lines of Goshawk-11. We would also like you to complete the remainder of the installation where indicated, for example fitting a butterfly valve to the main exhaust pipe, and control for same inter-connected with the accelerator pedal in a similar manner to that arranged for the 40/50 so that all the exhaust gas from the engine is passed through the carburetter jacket when the engine is running light. The exhaust pipe from the carburetter jacket also requires connecting up.
With regard to the jacket shewn on the T joint of the induction pipe, Mr. Royce wishes you to arrange that this can be supplied with heat or not as desired, the source of heat being exhaust gas as in the case of the jacket containing the throttle valve, or hot water if the former is too difficult to arrange.
The carburetter is intended to be the Goshawk-11 with certain alterations. The throttle is now carried in the hot jacket and a special short spray chamber is required without throttle or starter carburetter connection made from the contd:-
