Oy2-E-11824 January 16, 1924. Mr. Claude Johnson, Rolls-Royce, Ltd., London, England. (Copy for attention of Mr.Royce " " " " Mr.E.Platford " " " " Mr.Hives)✓ Dear Sir: Heat on floorboards and under scuttle. We have read with much interest Experimental Report 819 on this subject. As written in our report of July 30th last on "Heat in Cowls", we have had repeated complaints on this matter. Since that time we have arrived at five partial cures:- (1) Covering the upper side of the floorboards with 1/4" cork carpet cemented to each board but without metallic beading (the latter conducts heat through the boards). (2) Covering this with a removable mat of corrugated rubber with leather piping to protect the edges. This mat also covers the aluminum foot-plate which is a great source of heat. (3) The use of a fiber pedal pad on the accelerator pedal. This slides easily under the foot and prevents direct conduction of heat to the foot. (4) The cowl under the pedal slots as sketched in our report of July 30, to replace the flywheel guard. (5) Shortening the gearbox undersheet. | ||
