PHANTOM CAR FOR FRANCE. X8940C X7770 X4663

R1/M1.5.28.

The above should have the following modifications before leaving for its 10,000 miles test:

(1) HAND BRAKE - improved side by side, saving by this and other means 47 lbs.
(2) STEERING 15/1 - .720 plus 9½" pendulum lever, (same as F.{Mr Friese} 2. conversion.)
(3) PEDALS FURTHER FORWARD, economising body space, cancelling 'B' steering, lower roof.
(4) SHORTER ROAD WHEEL HUBS - better for traffic, saving in weight.
(5) COOLER EXHAUST VALVES, thicker heads.
(6) COMPRESSION RATIO, increased from 4¼ to 4½ or 4¾ - say 4.6. Necessary for performance and cool pipes and valves.
(7) PISTONS - single bolt, pedestal, with external surface scraper or perfect circle - LeC. 2554.
(8) OIL PRESSURE - 20 to 30 lbs. - say 25. Drilled to LeC. 2545. and 2553.
(9) OVERHEAD SLOT INDUCTION PIPE - 2" throttle, hot water heating. LeC. 2465. modified.
(10) RADIATOR MODIFICATION. More water space, slightly shorter tubes, and saving in weight.
(11) CRANKSHAFT OVAL WEBS - stiffest crank ever fitted to Phantom, slipper drive made.
(12) TUBULAR RODS. ? good for EAC. 10.
(13) EXHAUST PIPES. Cannot understand use of bellows on exhaust pipe to front silencer. I think we ought to try a plain fixed pipe here before proceeding to further alterations.
(14) IGNITION WIRING. With the new water heated induction pipe we wish to introduce an improved scheme of ignition wiring making sparking plugs more accessible, reducing length of wire and passing inside exhaust pipe at rear end of cyl. block. LeC. 2555.
(15) TORQUE REACTION DAMPER buckled on 12-EX. Does this require more clearance?
(16) CRANKSHAFT DAMPER - why not cotton duck?
(17) CAMSHAFT BEARINGS in aluminium.
(18) MODIFIED CENTRAL OILING SCHEME.
(19) OIL LEVEL GAUGE - more clearance for knob sliding in glass tube, rod material less easily bent.
