The radiator is raised by putting thicker packing washers E.81619/20/21/22 in the centre mounting. Care must be taken to allow clearance for the starting handle shaft for all positions of the radiator. It may be necessary to add a packing E.82714 between the radiator and the bottom water connection in order to increase the clearance for the bottom water connection under the radiator cross member.

Chipping the radiator cross member to increase the radiator movement should only be done when it is necessary to have more movement than can be obtained from raising the radiator.

It is impossible to state the required amount of radiator movement as this completely depends on the type of body fitted to the chassis.

The radiator control rubbers E.80612 in the cups each side of the centre mounting should be of a soft grade of rubber. We are sending two samples of this rubber.

It may be found that the radiator movement is being restricted by the use of an odd hard rubber which was used with the chassis fitted with the previous type of engine mounting. To increase the radiator movement, any of these hard rubbers should be refitted.

(2) If it is noticed that any of the five cars in question is less smooth than the later chassis it will probably be caused from insufficient clearance between the two castings of the front engine feet. We attach two prints showing the possible places of contact. By removing the four bolts holding the one casting to the crankcase, it is possible to ascertain if there is clearance.

(3) We are now fitting some improved friction material for the engine to frame dampers, which are in the front of the engine. We are sending you two samples of this material. By increasing the load of these dampers and fitting the new material on some cars, you will be able to realise torsional frame oscillations.
