BY.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} from DA.{Bernard Day - Chassis Design} c. to BJ. Hc. X5310 DA{Bernard Day - Chassis Design}2/M6.3.28 INDIA 3. X.5310 X.5770 X.5310 With reference to the long frame and 'X' shaped cross member which R.{Sir Henry Royce} instructed should be on the next 10,000 mile car, we have looked into the question of dismantling the gearbox without removing the unit from the frame, and have ascertained that this can be done with a slight modification to the tubular cross member. We have indicated it on N.sch. 2560 herewith. It will be seen that we propose to remove the foot brake differential shaft, and that the box can then be drawn off, being slightly dipped as it passes below the cross member. If this dismounting is considered by anybody to be too difficult for any reason, we should be glad if they would let us know as soon as possible, but we are under the impression that it will be alright. It follows from this that the instructions sent you on N.schs. 2518/9/26/28 are alright subject to the slight alterations indicated on N.sch. 2560. We have yet to send you particulars of the petrol tank and rear of the car, definite instructions as to the suspension of the battery, and information as to the driving positions, which are the same as now except that the levers come in a slightly different position.
