Re: CHASSIS B.125.GP - Mr. Jacques FAURE We thank you for your Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/Swdl.{Len H. Swindell}2/R.3.6.38. We should mention that all precautions were taken by us concerning correct nip and clearance. When we fitted the bearings which seized (which was between the 3rd and 13th January 1938, at 18.437 miles), the maximum ovality recorded on the main journals of the crankshaft was .0015" on N°1; the remainder had .001" ovality, with the exception of N°6, which had .0005". At the time we fitted the above new bearings, N°1 to N°6 were reamered to give a working clearance of .003" (from the maximum diameter of the journals). We should mention that the engine was free when built up and also quite free on test. Concerning the above, we would suggest that you refer to Owner's Complaint Report N°P.42. As mentiond in this report, we stoned and polished the main journals. As requested by you, we are returning the seized bearings to you and they have been labelled for your attention. We shall be glad to hear from you as soon as the analysis has been carried out. Sr/VA. | ||
