1. Introductory.
Twenty B.B. Bologna sparking plugs type S.6. were received from R.D.E.3 for examination and test.

This type of sparking plug is understood to be used in Jupiter engines in Italy.

2. Description of the plug. (Fig.1. attached).
The plug is of the mica insulated detachable type with the gland nut and centre integral. A section of the plug is shown in Fig.1 attached.

The body and gland are of steel, the metal of the latter having been first swaged over the mica insulation of the central electrode the nut and screw thread being formed subsequently. The lower edge of the gland is spun over the mica insulating washers of the central electrode, the surface of the mica washers between the central electrode shoulder and the gland being subsequently trimmed off and polished.

Gas tightness is dependent upon the swaging of the steel gland and upon the bedding of the copper seating washer between the gland and the plug body.

The central electrode is of steel with a shoulder (referred to above) formed at the sparking end which supports the mica insulating washers.
