scribed lines was very small, whilst there was a big difference in the two scribed lines at the pin end of the lever. Since there is only .038" actual deflection in the lever itself (Table 111.) and .148" in the lever and shaft combined, .104" of the .142" deflection must be due to twisting of the shaft, the majority of which apparently takes place in the taper portion which holds the operating lever.
