Dear Sirs,
For the attention of Mr. Robotham.
We are duly in receipt of your favor of the 15th instant, reference as above, contents of which we have carefully considered.
We note that the drop arm for the Marles-Weller Gear is to be despatched to us on Saturday, and as regards the Gear, we hope to complete this on Tuesday or Wednesday of next week, so that it should be well in time for fitting on the Bentley car which it is proposed to send to France.
We duly note that the matter of Controls is now cleared up.
As regards the Marles Gear for the Bentley Car, we would put forward our L.7 Gear also, as shewn on the drawing GA.2325, copy of which we enclose herewith.
We would draw your attention to the fact that this Gear is based on a total maximum rockershaft movement of 65°, as against the 75° of the Marles-Weller Gear, so that it will be necessary to fit a longer drop arm to the Marles Gear than to the Marles-Weller Gear to get the same fore and aft movement of the drag link. On the other hand the gear ratio in the box of the Marles Gear is such that 3 1/4 turns of the wheel are required to give the 65° movement of the rockershaft, that is to say a gear ratio of 18 to 1.
