I have fitted a new set of bonnet fasteners which will prevent this happening again. Whilst the car was at the Works, the whole of the front was modernised, and this has somewhat altered the position of the bonnet in relation to their catches on the bonnet rest plates, and in the rush to get this car away at the last minute, the re-fitting of these bonnet fasteners had been overlooked. With regard to the water temperature, the trouble here is due to two of the shutter blades being too tight, and in a last minute attempt to prevent the shutters from rattling, the Works took up the end play in some of these blades and two of them were left on the tight side. I have not been able to get hold of the car sufficiently long to ease these blades, but on Wednesday I blocked the shutters full open and the car was in use the whole of the day. The driver reported to me that the temperature had not gone beyond 80°. I have arranged with JLE{J. Lee Evans - Chassis Test Manager} that as soon as ever we can get hold of the car for a sufficiently long period, his fitter will dismantle these two shutter blades and increase the end play, this will then allow the thermostat to operate them correctly.
