Re Renault - Royalty.

With reference to Mr Berend's memos B9/H20511 and B11/H27511 and Mr Faroux's report, I should read from this that it is very certain that Renault will not interfere with us, but if they should do it is quite evident that they will not go into the law courts at so late a date.

By the time we are building cars there the patent will be so nearly expired that I do not think Renault would bother us. If they did, they would no doubt go to some aimable extent. Moreover, if we were not very aimable, I do not think they would be likely to take any legal proceedings at so late a date.

The other patents that might be considered for France would be the Mercedes'. I see the Mercedes gate change on little German cars that come to England, so that I should not expect that the French users of the gate system are paying any royalty.
