Further modifications to strengthen differential casing - Phantom III.

We send herewith N.Sch.4814 which shows the above.

N.Sch.4811 is to be cancelled as the information given on this drawing is either modified by N.Sch.4814 or is repeated.

The casing as we now show it will not clean up out of existing forgings, but the necessary alterations to the dies are only slight.

It is suggested that the half of the casing to which the crown wheel is attached should continue to be made in mild steel, but the other half should now be in nickel steel.

Clearances between the casing and the bridge and the bearing nut are not reduced, as the casing is turned away locally to clear the bridge and the nut and screwed extension are shortened by taper pinning through the body of the nut.

This casing can be used either with the existing differential gears and thrust washers or with the gears and washers of increased area originally shown by N.Sch. 4785.

N.Sch.4814 herewith.
