I have received your letter of the 29th inst.

With regard to the accident on 48 PK, I sent off a full report on it yesterday.

When we report 'off-side', we mean the english off-side, i.e. the right hand side of the car looking in the direction in which it is going.

[Handwritten: extract] {
We are taking 9 PK to Paris in order to do a few jobs on it to put it in good order for another 10,000 miles. The car is really in very good condition, and requires very little doing to it. The rear brakes will require relining, and as we have plenty of time on our hands we will decarbonize the engine, and do a few repairs to the body work.

We will repeat the temperature tests which we carried out on 9 YK, under the same conditions, to confirm the previous tests.
}

With regard to obtaining an average temperature under normal running conditions, we have been taking a lot of readings lately with a view to establishing a ratio between engine temperature and air temperature. The readings we have obtained do not give any really reliable data. It appears that the air temperature within limits is really quite a small factor when considered against the various conditions of running, such as direction and strength of wind, and the manner in which a car has been run just previous to the taking of a reading. We are trying to take readings under the same conditions, except for air temperature, to try and get some reliable results. To do this we are taking engine and air temperature readings on different days, after 1 mile, 2 miles and 3 miles of full throttle work on the level. This appears to be the only way to obtain any reliable results.

With regard to the drivers coming out on 98 NK, I should like Shepard back again, and Crofts if he is well enough to come. I should like the other men selected from the following if possible :-

Birkett - Repair Test Dept.
Frost - Test Dept.
Cave - " "
Hudson - " "
