aa{D. Abbot-Anderson} 1209 To Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} c. to EJJ. Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/AA.{D. Abbot-Anderson}2/JH/3.7.41. Fire Precautions at Clen. We have had the Local Chief Officer to inspect the place and he advises arrangements for emptying our lead petrol tanks at night. EJJ, tells me that at Derby they have fitted a pressure feed system which has been satisfactory, It is more costly than making arrangements to protect tanks with steel and draining into an underground tank, but in his opinion infinitely safer. The system consists of an underground storage tank, connected to a pump which pushes the fuel through a metering valve to the flow meter float chamber. When the engine shuts down the fuel is flowing through a bye pass and back to the tank. When the engine is finally shut down the pump is switched off and all pipe lines are empty except between the storage tank and the pump. Will you please consider this matter. If you agree to the fitting of the pressure system it could of course be used on the Tank Dynamometer house if it is placed in the position suggested by EJJ.
