re Left-Handed Chassis for America.

Sg{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD}6/E20.1.30.

You will remember that at the Verrey's Restaurant conference the idea of supplying chassis to America without sub-frames was approved.

It has occurred to me, however, that such an arrangement may run us into trouble unless we are already satisfied by actual tests that the Phantom II is a satisfactory car with a closed body if no sub-frame is fitted.

What I have in mind is that, even with sub-frames, there appears to be a tendency for Phantom II to boom.

I have always understood that the sub-frame helped to eliminate the possibilities of booming and, therefore, without them boom trouble may become serious.

I think, therefore, the Experimental Dept. should make tests of two or three of their closed experimental cars with the sub-frame cut out of action, which I believe they can do quite easily, i.e. fix it down in the same way as would be represented by a body fitted in the ordinary way.

We still hope to secure the contract for the manufacture of the chassis for America and, therefore, I think that these tests should be made as soon as possible.
