Copy of R2/M7.12.22 - contd :- In the case of America, should they adopt left-hand steering on their new cars, which I strongly advise, then the central change obviously follows, so that cars we are likely to make in U.S.A. Springfield Works, should be left-hand steering, central change, with or without the Servo system of four wheel brakes, and I should certainly recommend that in all cases the four wheel brakes should be adopted for the large car. This is not that the present braking system is defective on the car, but the tyres on greasy roads may not hold sufficiently. In conclusion, I should like to point out that firstly, the braking system of our present cars, both 20 and 40/50 HP. is extremely good for all ordinary purposes, providing the roads are not greasy, and secondly, the tyres are kept at as low a pressure as is possible (between 40 to 50 lbs. for open bodies) and that the 40/50 is fitted with rear shock dampers. I consider these two last mentioned precautions to be highly necessary. Sgd. F.H.R. | ||
