Austria, 27th August 1912. Dear F.H.R., The danger of not knowing that water has boiled away. In ascending the Brenner Pass, I thought that by avoiding full throttle I had prevented the water from boiling. But at lunch time I found no water in sight on opening the tank cap. May there not be a danger of breakdown owing to the water boiling away without the driver knowing of it? Yours sincerely, C.J. [Handwritten annotations] [Left Margin]: X766 [Top left]: W. Boyes In Tech letter [Below typed text]: It is more difficult than it would appear Mr. Johnson & I have decided that better not to show water boiling, indicator is difficult to imagine either a float or pressure or flow gauge that would be practical. decided to await for first practical indication of trouble from such a cause FHR [Bottom right]: File Water Only [Stamp 1]: OCT 23 1912 [Stamp 2]: 23 X 12 | ||
