This Thermometer is the Cambridge Thermometer in appearance and we believe the internal arrangements are the same, except that it is of a more substantial and robust design; it is a good arrangement. The thermometer which we are at present using on the American chassis is a similar instrument to the Cambridge and is made by the same people. The scale is in Fahrenheit instead of Centigrade. We are at present using it because we found the outside mechanism they were using was unreliable, but the instrument when disconnected by means of a large nut which, when turned, twisted the capillary and invariably broke it. We recommend that the Foxboro' Thermometer should be used on the American chassis as long as the system is modified so as to be similar to what we suggest on drawing E.18063. and that we have an opportunity to check the first one or two. We make this decision. As soon as we have perfected the system Mr. Royce wishes, it is anticipated that all American chassis fitted with a Thermostat will carry out the R-R scheme. We are at present testing in America with a Cambridge Thermometer. We have decided to abandon it if we can get a suitable control for the water by other means. We have to make it clear that as soon as a suitable Thermometer is available it will be fitted. H.S. S450 C (3M 8-24) L & B (1001) Y 332 K | ||
