EXPERIMENTAL DEPARTMENT..

Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/JBD.{John B. Dixon - Fuel Systems}1/JH.
20th. February, 1939.

Messrs. Ferodo Ltd.,
Chapel-en-le-Frith.

For the attention of Mr. Longley.

Dear Sirs,

We enclose a rough sketch of 3 thrust rings we require.

We have had similar rings in Bakelite and have experienced considerable wear, the movement is only about a 30° turn and only when the brake is applied, the loading is also light.

These rings will rub in a phosphor bronze spring plate and are required to make a seal to keep out water so that the surface must be flat and well finished.

We should like 3 rings in any different materials you may think fit such as VG.100 and two other hard wearing water resisting materials.

The trouble we have had has been mainly due to the abrasive action of road dust and grit to which this washer is exposed, and it is impossible to provide any lubrication.

We will send you an official order as soon as we hear from you that you can supply some suitable material.

Yours faithfully,

FOR ROLLS-ROYCE LTD.
