Na.{Mr Nadin} from BY.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} EFC c. to BHn. c. to Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} X.3900 COPY. BY12/F18.5.20. X.3614. Re American built chassis. X.3702. X.3578 In two of my recent memos, reference BY/Btnl/W30420 and BY/Mtnl/W12520, I have pointed out that in the case of the Magneto and Dynamo and incidentally therefore the Switchboard and Junction Box associated with the Dynamo, it has been decided that these should be exported from England. I should have made it more clear that not only in the case of larger units awkward to obtain, such as those above adopted, but also for all parts which you cannot exactly duplicate, it is now proposed that we should export the parts in question from England to America. I attach herewith a list of the parts which we consider it would be advisable for you to import from this country and would like to have from you a similar list dealing with any further items which you find you cannot obtain in the States. The decision above referred to is the result of a conference which was held here CJ. being present, at which it was definitely decided that the American chassis must be the exact counterpart in every respect of the English chassis, so that it would be practically impossible to distinguish between the American built R-R chassis and one built in England. X.3900-In regard to the question of road springs I discussed this question very fully with Mr. Royce at my recent visit, but nothing definite was arrived at until certain experiments which Mr. Royce wished to have Contd. | ||
