Messrs. Ferodo Limited,
Chapel-en-le-Frith.

For attention Mr. Field.

Dear Sirs,

We thank you for your letter of the 26th, ref. FJF/WAC.

We agree that the values for μ are unaccountably low. You might be able to show that our Servo Motor is not all that is to be desired in that the pegs transferring the torque from the inner member to the outer have to slide under load. The full pressure of the spring (cams in our case) might therefore not get to both friction surfaces. We have never been able to show that this is a disadvantage, but often suspect it.

Yours faithfully,

FOR ROLLS-ROYCE LIMITED.
