L32465 To Hm.{Capt. W. Hallam - Head Repairs} from Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}1/LG13.3.26. Chassis No.22-LC - J.Spedan Lewis. /80430 With reference to HRL/PD/12.3.26. attached. There are two points on the steering which will cause it to become stiff - (1) Seizing of the pivot pin bushes. (2) Inefficiency of the nut and worm. As regards (1). This has always been more or less a trouble with us and can only be avoided by frequently lubricating the pivots. As regards (2). We expect that the efficiency is poor because of incorrect bedding on the nut and worm. We attach a chart which shows the method of testing and what the efficiency should be on the latest steerings with 7.20 lead worm. We also give figures for 'V' series with 1.25" lead. If you will let us have the nut and worm from the steering complained of we can easily tell you the efficiency of it. If the efficiency of the nut and worm is poor, then friction in any other part of the steering will need a greater effort on the part of the driver to overcome it. Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} | ||
