Coverley - Production Engineer}/SB.{Mr Bull/Mr Bannister}1/MC.3.2.38, we understand that Messrs.Barber Colman are prepared to hob the taper splines on our experimental pinion shafts on their own machines, which would give us an opportunity of trying this scheme without waiting for our own machine. With regard to the other points raised:- (1). The oil level plug sealing disc is fitted in order to prevent oil filling the lightening hole. If this is not considered important when removing the plug, there is no objection to drilling the hole as suggested. (2). The die-cast cover shown may be reversed to enable the fitting face to be glazed. There will be ample clearance between the raised portion of the cover and the brake operating rod which passes behind it. (3). A cheaper way to provide half shaft guide cones might be to incorporate these in the A/DC Bearing covers, a design for which will follow. FTH X is not true Da{Bernard Day - Chassis Design}/HB.{C. E.
