With reference to Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}2/MJ8.9.30. R.{Sir Henry Royce} instructs that we should try an increased diameter propeller shaft, if possible slightly thinner. Would Derby please therefore obtain a shaft 2.5 outside diameter, and if possible .092 (13 SWG. thickness). We believe that it is quite possible to get swaged ends thicker than the central part of the tube. This would raise the theoretical whirling speed from 3720 to 4180. which we should expect would be a sufficient margin. It may be necessary to increase slightly the set in the cross member between the front end of the rear spring. Da.{Bernard Day - Chassis Design} | ||
