Petrol starvation on acceleration after a halt was experienced. The following tests were therefore carried out to obtain a standard of comparison. Air temperature 28°c throughout test. 1) With A.C. & S.U. high pressure pump in action. Car driven fast for 15 mins. U.B. Temperature 50°c Halt for 10 mins. " " 62°c Quick get-away in 2nd & 3rd to 40 MPH. when starvation occurred and speed fell to 32 MPH. Intermittent recovery to 52 MPH. and gradual pick-up to 65 MPH. when complete recovery was obtained 1.1/4 minutes after starting. 2) With A.C. mechanical pump only in action. Test repeated as above with practically identical symptoms. 3) Above tests repeated with bonnet removed. Under bonnet temperature 45°c running, and 40°c after halt. No failure on acceleration. 4) Tests with bonnet doors open showed no reduction in Under Bonnet temperatures. 5) Five minutes slow running and stopping and starting. U.B. temp. rose to 62°c. Acceleration in 2nd & 3rd to 50 MPH. Hesitation occurred preventing further gain of speed for a few seconds. Changed into top and car continued to accelerate without further hesitation. 6) Five minutes slow running followed by part throttle get-away showed no failure.
